Profile

Noni May Clarke

Noni has a loving personality and smooth but playful style of swing dance. She also specializes in blues, which is a growing style of dance in Melbourne.

During 2004, Noni taught swing and blues dancing interstate and overseas. She taught in many different places in America, like Chicago, Connecticut and New York. She and Solomon Douglas taught a major blues weekend in Pittsburgh, PA where more than 100 people attended and most were from interstate. Noni also taught many private lessons while traveling, too.

Noni and Josh Mckiterick came equal first in the Australian Jitterbug Championships, showcase division in 2004.

Noni began swing dancing in 2000, and fell in love with it straight away.

She started with her brother Leon, and their friends Emily Gassner and Ben Williamson. As Noni was only 15 years old she wasn\'t able to attend classes as often as she would have liked. She social danced a lot and picked up most moves that way.

This continued to be the case for the next two years, as she was completing her VCE. Other than dancing, her strengths are fine arts and music. She achieved outstanding results for art in her final year at school. She also had her work exhibited in the National Gallery because she won the People’s Choice Award for Top Arts 2002, where there were 3,000 other entries.

She later completed a year at the Victorian College of the Arts for painting. Where she won the Best First Year artwork.

Noni was part of the first year of Swing Patrol's Scat Pack.

"Something I keep in mind when swing dancing is express not impress. Just express your joy and have a great time."
