Profile

Celia Borysewicz

Celia’s introduction to swing dancing resulted from a Swing Patrol brochure which had been handed to her. Her curiosity got the better of her and from her first lesson at CBD with Scott and Claudia in September 2000, she was hooked! There has been no turning back for this Swing Kat!

Her musical grounding started at school where she played the saxophone in the school band and the local Werribee Show Band. With her spirited nature, Celia is no stranger to abseiling, rock climbing or hiking and has even had a bungy jump. As one to always push her personal boundaries, the prospect of travelling to distant lands, dance workshops and competitions have been challenges that she has happily embraced.

July 2003, saw her first-ever trip overseas for seven weeks to USA. Celia attended various swing workshops, dancing up a storm in Los Angeles, Catalina Island, New York, Seattle and San Francisco. Highlights included her exceptional performance in placing 6th at the Camp Catalina Jack and Jill 2003 and being a reserve finalist of the Jack and Jill at the Harlem Jazz Dance Festival 2003 in New York.

One of the original members of the performance troupe ‘Scat Pack’ she performed at every given opportunity. Celia loves to share the enjoyment and energy she feels in the music with the audience and through her performing she easily expressed the passion she has for the dance. You can often catch her in a jam circle enjoying her new-found passion for fast, flying Lindy!

With a relatively short history of dancing, she has already achieved an impressive record of awards in Swing competitions at state and national levels. Some of which include:

  • 1st: Adult Slow Swing – Queensland Dancesport Championships 2002
  • 1st: Adult Harlem Swing – National Capital Dance Championships 2002
  • 1st: Adult Jack and Jill – National Capital Dance Championships 2002
  • 1st: Adult Triples – Ararat Jailhouse Rock Festival 2003
